The First British Shot of WWI

Corporal Edward Thomas, of the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, shot a German officer on the road between Casteau and Soignies, as they advanced towards Mons in Belgium.
It was the first British shot of WW1 and the first British shot on mainland Europe for a century.
