Free Newspaper Archives

Newspapers have always put the spin on everyday stories and family history just comes to life when you read at first hand the antics of your ancestors but contemporary news of historical events are riveting as well.

The British Newspaper Archives are now online but you do need to buy a subscription to access them. There are other newspaper archives that are free and well worth exploring, here are three to peruse:

Internet Library of Early Journals and here at Intriguing History we are particularly loving the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. This is just another illustration of the brilliant work being done by UK universities, this time a collaborative venture, The Electronics Libraries Project by the University of Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Oxford

The London Gazette choose your paper for over 300 years of news
