Mapping demo

This map is provided for reference only at this point, with thanks to the National Library of Scotland

Thanks to the National Library of Scotland and their mapping initiatives, we will be looking at bring you some great new tools linking into these resources over the coming months.

Please note the map will take a little while to load…it will ask if its ok to track your location, all that means is that it will default to a view of the old map that is specific to your current location. It is helpful and then you can zoom in and out as suits your purpose.

Some of the ideas we are considering include for family history and local history projects, providing the information and ability to create your very own geo-referenced map, that you can then run on Google Earth, but more of that later. We are also looking at open access to place names database and integration with free publicly available maps and a family names database with reference to various research projects in the UK that are already in hand.

Any notices re new releases of mapping solutions we will announce on our sister site, so why not subscribe for email update now
